Mount Radicus

Mount Radicus is the volcano on the large island directly south of the peninsula of Embertalon. Fifteen years ago, the Orcs were nonexistent on Falcon Island. The humans, elves, and the dwarves occupied the vast majority of the island and lived and traded peacefully.

The eruption of Radicus was the first in a series of natural phenomena that pushed the civilized folk out of the southeastern corner of Falcon Island. The Humans took the heaviest casualties directly from Radicus. The waves of heat, ash, and lava decimated the humans’ southeastern villages. It was after Radicus’s eruption that the Beating Sea began its rapid expansion north through the center of the island. The sea’s violent expansion made the humans exclusively western island dwellers, and effectively cut off the western elves from those still on the eastern side of the island, south of High State.

The first report of Orcs came two years after Radicus. The western Elven capital had been raided and demolished by an unknown race of barbarians. The report told of “heavily muscled men crawling from the ashy soil, gray and toothy,” and how the cannibals completely massacred the city’s defenses (Ascher Orcus, Elf, After Radicus 2-2). The attackers were called “Orcs,” after the messenger who first told of their arrival.
